Has anyone had to take in only 1 of contact lenses as a test?

Someone I know is thinking about getting contact lenses, but the doctor 1 given lens to try out. This seems strange that only one eye will be tested. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

That sounds strange to me, but I lost one of my contacts in one day and couldnt get an appointment the eye until the next day, so I had to go an entire day without the lens but I used one that still had it or I wouldnt have seen, and that really wasn't that bad. I could see during the day and that has not affect my vision too. UT never heard of a doctor suggesting that actually, because my eye doctor was mad that I did said I should have put my glasses but I am horrible in them and I wasn't put into practice.
